Sharon Stevens, HR Manager, Bromley Mytime:
"From our perspective, Bromley College has been creative, supportive and switched on in terms of our training needs. They ask, "what do you need for your staff in order for them to do their jobs? How can we convert that into something that can actually be funded?" - that's the kind of creativity they offer - there is a real desire to work with employers, and a real grasp around what our business is, and what we need in terms of skills, confidence and competence for our staff to do their jobs effectively.
Every member of staff at Bromley Mytime has a training and development plan, and that is something we audit and respond to regularly. When we were looking for a management qualification for our Operations and Leisure Centre Managers, we worked with the College to build a CMI (Chartered Management Institute) qualification that was marketable and relevant to our industry.
The College spend time at each of our sites to understand the pressures that our managers were under, and they customised the qualification so that we were able to use some of our own material for part of the training. Our managers finished the qualification by doing a real-life bid for funding for their particular sites, so it was very worthwhile. They all passed, and we were so delighted, we are now working with other staff members to create a Level 3 course.''
